I Know This Much Is True- Plot
I Know This Much Is True is centred around past flashbacks and a very uncertain future where we find out that the twins were raised by a cruel stepfather. A step-father who did not have time for either of them.
This domestic environment and growing pattern of abuse leads to mental trauma which started right in school at a very young age and led the twins to believe that their family was cursed.
Dominick is a house painter and his brother Thomas is a paranoid schizophrenic, who seems to exist in the world of alarm. Thomas gets these angry episodes that are triggered. As he was sent to a psych ward for help Dominick did agree with his condition and kept on saying that his behavior is triggered “I know this much is true”.
The book and the series both open at a scene at a hospital where Thomas is severing his hand in a public library so he does not cause damage. “It is a sacrifice” is what Dominick says as they arrive at the hospital swamped with doctors and nurses.
